Friday, October 07, 2005

Following on from Rich...!'s trend of posting vanity plates that he's noticed, here's one spotted at Camps Bay yesterday afternoon:

Hmm!

Slowness

Tuesday, September 13, 2005

Don't be surprised if this blog gets neglected a bit... I've been helluva busy at work (!) as well as with the BadBoyz.co.za blog stuff.

In the meantime, I'm officially crapping myself for the next event... the Table Mountain Challenge!

BadBoyz.co.za blog launched!

Friday, September 09, 2005

I've been working with my mate Nick to launch a blog covering our activities each weekend and to keep people updated on what's out there and just how to go about doing it. The idea is that hopefully we'll inspire people to get their lazy asses off the couch and out there!

It's still very much in the teething stages and we've got a lot of configuring to do, but mosy over and take a peek -- let me know if you think it's worthwhile!

Orienteering ROCKS!

Monday, August 29, 2005

Man... it's awesome! This last weekend I took part in my first orienteering race up in the Coetzenberg mountains in Stellenbosch, hosted by the Peninsula Orienteering Club. What is O-racing? Think of a cross-country Easter-egg hunt...!

The basic idea is that you have to find "beacons" at various points in the countryside in a specific order with the aid of a map and a control card. Each beacon has a punch attached to it that you use to clip your control card as proof that you found the beacon. How you get to the beacon is up to you... direct route (usually with a fair share of bush-bashing!), round-about route, whatever floats your boat! Must say that I learned VERY quickly that the direct route is not always best -- my legs are scratched, cut and bruised to shit! Happy? You betcha!

There's various courses of different degrees of difficulty: the crucial element here being the degree of navigational skill that is needed. On offer yesterday were orange, red, green and blue courses. Red's very simple navigation with a slightly longer course. I didn't find that too difficult and so did a green course after that. The navigation here's a LOT more challenging as the control points are usually in the middle of nowhere and fairly hidden. Much bundu-bashing for the inexperienced novice!

You don't need to be an active runner or anything of the sort -- a lot of people simply walk the course. Go on, give it a bash, you know you want to!

The joys of bluetooth

Tuesday, August 23, 2005

Or rather: the joys of trying to install the fuggin drivers.

(Warning: geeky post coming up)

I've got a bluetooth USB adapter which I use to synchronise my phone, copy stuff off it and all that groovy stuff that bluetooth's good for. The adapter was installed on my home PC and all was hunky dory (although I did have some issues getting it installed). Anyway, decided to use the thing at work as well... fok me. The driver thing gives you a damn runaround! Anyway, while the solution's actually pretty simple -- it's a bloody pain in the ass. Why can't these morons just get their drivers digitally signed??
